STREET MARKETS IN NAPLES
Crowds compressed beneath the architecture
This Naples watercolour began with the density of the street: market stalls, passing figures and buildings pressing closely around the activity below.
I was less interested in describing every object than in finding the larger movement of the place. Connected shadows hold the composition together while warmer marks, figures and fragments of signage interrupt the structure.

PAINTING THE CITY IN MOTION
Observation, value and atmosphere
Watercolour encourages decisions to remain visible. Broad washes establish the street and architecture; smaller marks arrive later, only where they strengthen the movement, light or human presence of the scene.
THE CITY IS THE SUBJECT—BUT ATMOSPHERE IS WHAT REMAINS.
